Sunday and Holy Day Reflections

Pentecost Sunday

Until now the apostles are still afraid. Until now they do not know what to do. Until now they do not know what they are called to be. Until now they do not know what to preach.

The life of Christ with the apostles, his preaching, his miracles, his death and resurrection do not mean that much for them. They do not see the relation between the Old Testament and the preaching of the of Jesus and his life, that will become the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They do not know what to remember and what is important of all what was said , done or lived by their divine master, Jesus.

Jesus told them wait for the advocate: "The advocate, the Holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name - he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you" John 14:26."While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father which you have heard me speak" Acts of the Apostles 1:4

For nine days they were gathered together so as to pray, to think, to discuss. This novena became the first one ever. Time for prayers, reflection, fasting and renewal of life that the Christians started so as to follow the example of the Apostles. "When they entered the city they went to upper room where they were staying , Peter, and John and ... all devoted themselves with one accord to prayer, together with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers" Acts 1:13

Then the miracle happens. The Acts of the Apostles describes it as "Suddenly there came from sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came and rest on each of them..."Acts 2:2-3

But the real miracle that happens some times to many of us even today, that in a moment when you are filled with doubts and fears, a spiritual interior inspiration touches you and changes all your doubts into certitude of faith and fills you with great joy that you commit all your life to follow these inspirations of few moments.

The life of the Apostles will change since then. The closed doors will be opened. Their fears disappear. They are filled of great energy. They know now why they were chosen by Jesus. They know what to preach. They know what is important, they know what they are called to do. They know that their lives are not more important than witnessing what they have lived, heard and seen. St. John in prologue of his first letter will say: "What we have seen and heard we proclaim now to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; for our fellowship is with the father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing to you this so that our joy may be complete" 1 Jn. 1:3-4

* Pray that the Lord opens your heart to find solutions for things that bother your faith.
* Pray that the Holy Spirit may bring you to a better understanding of your life.
* Pray that you may see your commitments in life on the light of the Spirit.
* Pray for all who has doubts in your family, friends and people.
* Pray that we all find the peace of the Spirit that brings joy to our hearts
