He left us his legacy
Fifth Sunday of Easter (B)

He will soon leave the world. He will leave his apostles and disciples in the world. In fact, after appearing to his disciples for 40 days after his resurrection, he tells them that they will not see him any more. He has to leave them and they have to do things alone empowered by the Holy Spirit. He can no more be there visible leader, he should become the invisible one, but "Behold I am with you always, until the end of the world." Matthew 28: 20

They are called to be his witnesses. Witnesses of this History of Salvation: God who is spirit and who is Love, became human, died out of love for us to save the world and want the world to be a paradise of love. This all about the mission of the apostles and the church: BE LOVE IN THE WORLD. As we read in today reading from the first Letter of St. John 4:7-10
Then you will become the "salt of the world," the "light of the world." Love is the light of everything.

He says it in today's Gospel: "This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends" John 15: 12-13
He just came only to love, not to judge, not to condemn, not to witness against anybody. And this is his legacy to his church.
This is his teaching to his church and believers: You are called to love and only to love everybody.

Unfortunately we often forget this legacy, ignore it and hurt each other and the world, and then we pretend.
"When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and I guarded them ... But now I am coming to you ...I do not ask you that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the evil one ... Consecrate them in the truth "Jn 17:12-17
Unfortunately and many times we have not been the love that the Lord is asking us to be. We cannot be a church, a family is a small church. We cannot be role model after all the evil that we have done.

He will be leaving soon. His Ascension day is next Thursday or Sunday. Are we ready to bring his legacy of love to the world?
It is through a real change in my life, in my views, in my way of dealing with others, in my way of acting as person of good will that I can bring about the legacy of Jesus love and others can see in me a person to respect, then to love, then to look at as role model.

The apostles learned a big deal about their weakness, their betrayal, their cowardice, their refusal to follow Jesus to the end. They discovered that their lives can be real lives only when they follow the legacy of love and to love always and only to love even if they are persecuted and killed. Only love will save them and save their persecutors and killers.

Today world is eager for love, this is what we see on the first reading from the Acts of the Apostles: "In truth, says Peter. I see that God shows no partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him". Acts 10: 25-48
