Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has called on the Roman Catholic Church to join the World Council of Churches in time for the international ecumenical body’s 50th anniversary next year.

Archbishop Spyridon recently met with Carey Cavanaugh, chief of the U.S. State Department’s Southeastern Europe Bureau. The two discussed the Orthodox Church’s support for American efforts aimed at peace in the region.
Presbyters Council Meets at Ecumenical Patriarchate

Renovations to Preempt Summer Camp
Camp Good Shepherd, the summer program held at St. Basil Academy for children of the Archdiocese District and New Jersey Diocese, will not operate this summer because of renovations to the Academy in preparation for the re-opening of the Teachers’ Academy this fall.
Archdiocese District Holds GOYA Pageant
Twenty-two Goyans recently took part in the Archdiocese District’s biennial GOYA Pageant of Achievement before an audience of 400. Stephanie Soteriou and Stephen Casil of Glen Cove, N.Y., won the 1996-97 Mr. and Miss GOYA title.
