UN Human Rights Commission condemns Israel

Friday, April 23, 1999

The UN Commission on Human Rights adopted a resolution condemning Israel's activities in the occupied Arab territories.

It accused the Israelis of detaining thousands of Palestinians without trial, and expropriating Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem.

It also accused Israel of showing contempt for the Middle East peace process, and repeated previous criticisms that all Israeli settlements built in occupied territories since 1967 were illegal.

The Israeli delegate accused the Commission of discrimination by singling his country out as a separate agenda item.
