Join a national education campaign about Jerusalem to
STOP THE BUILDING OF HAR HOMA SETTLEMENT ON JABAL ABU GHNEIM
Organize an EMERGENCY TEACH-IN ON JERUSALEM in your community on
March 12, 1997
The goal of this campaign is to hold teach-ins on March 12 in 100 U.S. cities in support of efforts in Palestine and Israel to stop the building of this settlement.
Suggestions for the Emergency Teach-in:
Show "Seeds of War," a 15-mn video on Jabal Abu Ghneim, just released last week, followed by an open discussion on what you can do to stop this settlement from being built.
Circulate a petition urging Israel to halt all settlement activity, including Har Homa.
Begin an E-Mail/fax/telephone/letter campaign to President Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, asking them to pressure Israel to halt the building of Har Homa.
Organize a demonstration in front of the Israeli Consulate in your area.
Write letters to the editor and place Op-Eds on this issue in your local newspapers.
Inform your local press about the teach-in to attract media attention to the campaign.
This campaign is in response to Israel's recent approval of a plan to build Har Homa, a new settlement on the site of Jabal Abu Ghneim in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem, to house more than 30,000 Israeli settlers. The building of this settlement, as all others, violates international law. However, this one completes the ring of Jewish settlements around Jerusalem and preempts any possibility of a negotiated solution to the status of Jerusalem. It constitutes an attempt by Israel to create facts on the ground to alter the character of the Holy City, assert exclusive Israeli control over Jerusalem, and crush Palestinian aspirations to make Arab East Jerusalem the capital of a future Palestinian state.
By joining this national effort to halt settlement activity, you can help stop the building of Har Homa.
