Report Zarka North

Zarka is located 25 km north from Amman it is a military city which was founded in 1927 A.D with some thousands of inhabitants, today it is considered the second city in Jordan after Amman, with 600.000 inhabitants. It was built for the military families who were trained in the desert. This city was developed without any planning, especially after the waves of the Palestinian families’ immigration in 1949 , 1967 , 1991 the last immigration which occurred after the Gulf war was the most catastrophic immigration.

Zarka was the first station city among Kuwait, Baghdad, and Amman, the refugees dwelled in this city in huge numbers.

The Christians in Zarka:

The Christians in Zarka are about 25000 inhabitants they belong to different parishes: there is two Latin parish, two Roman Catholic parishes, one Orthodox and one Anglican.

My parish in Zarka North:

This parish was founded in 1963 A.D as a sub- parish reports to Zarka south, it was the parish of Baderborn with the aid of the Association Of Saint Sepulcre’s knights who financed the inauguration of this church. Due to the lack of the Christian religion teaching in the public schools which are supervised by the government, his church has its own proper parish school in the North of Zarka.

Our community comprises (1300) families with an average of ( 5) children for each, which means about 9100) member. The church exerts its best efforts to provide the members of the church with the religious teaching, school services as well as the social services.

The religious teaching services in Zarka North is provided by two priests and six nouns who belong to sister’s Dorotee monastic ( two sacred hearts )

The nature of school services:

The parish school receives ( 885 ) students. The students of the kindergarten ( founded by Frau Underberg ) are divided as follows: Male Christians 57. Female Christian 70. Muslims students ( male & female ) 61. Total 188.

The parish school receives ( 697 ) students in three levels: Elementary, Preparatory, and secondary. The annual fees are ( 115 JD) which forms a small contribution paid by the Christians to express their felling of responsibility towards the church for the purpose of maintaining and founding the school, but the poor families are always exempted.

The social services in the community:

The Cardinal Jaeger is found to present a number of services. First. the nursery which receives ( 81 ) infants. Second the clinic with a doctor who aids the poor people in the region without any distinction between the Christians and the others. Third. The Dentist Clinic is also at the disposal of the poor people. Fourth. The Knitting and sewing center which is managed by a nun, there are (100) girls and mothers of families who are learning Knitting and sewing to gain their wages. Fifth. We also have a secretarial center with ( 57 ) students. Sixth. The art workshop, where we receive Poor people who practice special skills, in this regard we exert our best efforts to develop their skills in a creative manner to enable them to gain their own salary in an honorable manner, in the end of each month they were paid, also their production are promoted by exposing them in a small exhibit where our visitors can find some beautiful items.

The community activities:

Masses: The daily Mass at 0715 hrs. The Sunday Mass ( 4 masses ). Religious teaching for the school : ( the priests and the nuns )

The activities:

Scouts ( 150) youth. The Virgin Mary Group, two sections for the parents and the youth. The Elementary, Preparatory, and the Secondary sections. Hereunder a brief expose of our parish and its activities. Our church is located in a deserted area. We do not have any ancient ruins, which attracts the attention of the visitors as well as the pilgrimages. Despite of all that is our pleasure to receive those who are interested in our life and willing to realize our daily difficulties.
