This feast of the Epiphany came to us from the East. In fact, some Orthodox churches celebrate it on January 6th as the day of Christmas. For us also on the West, this feast was Christmas until it was changed to Dec. 25th. Epiphany means the manifestation of the Lord to the whole world.
 
Epiphany is Christmas: The manifestation of the Lord to the Jews: "And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's Son, full of grace and truth" Jn 1: 14 The Lord manifested himself in flesh to the Holy Mother, to St. Joseph, to the shepherd and to many families of Joseph and Mary from Bethlehem and to may who came like them for the census.
 
Epiphany is the visit of the magi: The manifestation of the Lord to the gentiles: "Behold, magi from the East arrived in Jerusalem, saying, where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him homage" Matt. 2: 1-2. The Lord manifested himself as the king of the kings to the magi who are gentiles, means non-Jews. As a king "Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Matt. 2:11
 
Epiphany is the baptism of the Lord: The manifestation of the Lord to his John. "I did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, "On whoever you see the Spirit come down and remain, he is the one who will baptize with the holy Spirit" Now I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God" Jn. 2:33-34 In many traditions, people ask that the priest come and bless their homes with the holy water (baptize the house). It is a symbol of this manifestation of the Lord during his baptism as the only one Lord that the prophets to John have testified his glory on the world.
 
Epiphany is the wedding of Cana: The manifestation of the Lord to his disciples: "Jesus did this as the begining of his sings at Cana of Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to beleive in him" Jn 2: 11 Mary is the one who discovers the needs to the bride and the groom. She asks Jesus and order the servant to do what Jesus will ask them to do. In this way Mary was the one who starts this manifestation of the Lord and his public life as Messiah and Lord.
 
Has the Lord manifested himself to you? Think of the time that you pray. The time that you to take the holy communion. The time that you try to be honest, loving, gentile, kind, generous, forgiving... Think on the times that you do not do any of the above. Where and when does the Lord manifest himself to you?
