Arab News: El-Baz statements on the Pope's visit to
Cairo
Egypt, Politics, 2/26/2000
The political advisor to the Egyptian president, Osama
El-Baz, has
underlined the current visit paid by Pope John Paul II
to Egypt,
saying it is the Pope's conviction that the logic of peace
should
prevail the region on the grounds of justice and international
legitimacy rather than imposing fait accompli by means
of force.
In a statement to Egyptian television on Friday, El-Baz
said the
recent visit made by President Mubarak to Egypt has conveyed
a message
of backing and support to Lebanon against the Israeli
aggression, a
visit which also means assertions made by Egypt and the
Arabs on the
need to achieve a just peace in the region that provides
for restoring
the full lands and rights, El-Baz added.
He criticized the statements made by Israeli officials
against
President Mubarak's visit to Lebanon, saying that the
Israeli
officials have lost their temper for a simple reason in
that they used
to think that relations between them and the Arabs can
only be made
through holding separately each Arab state and separating
Arab tracks.
